Jewellery tools, meters and gauges for jewelry, costume jewelery, handicrafts and general crafts.

In 1514 the Portuguese mathematician, astronomer and geographer Pedro Nunes, known by his Latin name Petrus Nonius, invented the nonius, a device of measurement of lengths that with the help of the astrolabe allowed the measurement of fractions of degrees of very small angles.

In 1631 the French mathematician Pierre Vernier invented Vernier's scale for measuring lengths with great precision using the nonius. Currently the measuring device that arises from the union of these two inventions is known as Vernier Caliper, fundamental in any jewelry workshop.

This measuring device has been evolving over the years. Currently in the world of jewelry, a Vernier caliper must be present, both the mechanic and more traditional, as well as the digital, very useful for novice craftsmen who will not need to know the handling of the nonius to obtain accurate measurements.

We also find Disien calipers or decimals used mainly for the measurement of thickness of gems and that even will be used with the help of the corresponding tables to make an estimation of the gemstones carats that are already mounted. It will be enough to measure the diameter and height and with these two values consult the table to obtain the carat weight of the piece.
